"Celebrate America" Austin Area Creative Writing Contest

Judging Instructions

There were 247 entries submitted to the contest in the Austin area.  Below, you will find the top eleven entries that were narrowed down with names and schools removed by a committee of eleven members.  The anonymous entries were evaluated on the basis of theme, presentation, creativity, and message.  You will see that in addition to poems, there are short stories, research papers, letters and narratives among the top eleven entries.

Please rank the top eleven creative writing entries from one to eleven (one being the best) using the criteria below.  The winning submission was that which had the lowest overall score tabulated from
the rankings assigned by the judges.

Content/Theme:  How well does the entry explain “Why I am Glad America is a Nation of Immigrants?”

Presentation: Are the ideas well developed?

Creativity:  Is the submission unique in some way?

Powerful Message:  Are you moved by the message?

Each entry has been assigned a letter.  We have prepared a ranking sheet for your scores.
Please write the letter of the essay in the first column and the ranking in the second column.
